Announcing transitional arrangements at ARASA

ARASA bids farewell to Felicita Hikuam as Director and announces Nyasha Chingore as Acting Director.

At the beginning of January 2022 we shared the news of Felicita’s decision to step down as ARASA’s Director. Since then, ARASA’s Board with support from Felicita and the rest of the ARASA team have spearheaded a leadership transition that has included recruitment for a new Director, which is still underway.

Today, we announce the appointment of Nyasha Chingore as Acting Director starting 1 May 2022 for 1 month. Nyasha joined ARASA in 2019 as Programmes Lead, in which capacity she currently serves. Nyasha is a well respected human rights lawyer, who conceptualised and established a new sexual and reproductive rights unit at SALC in 2013, which she led until 2017 when she left SALC to join the Centre for Reproductive Rights Africa Programme as their regional manager based in Nairobi.

Felicita leaves ARASA after 13 years of applying her skills, technical expertise, professionalism, passion and good humour to promote a rights-based response to HIV and, more recently, promoting and protecting the rights to bodily autonomy and integrity. Her last day at ARASA will be 29 April.

We thank Felicita for her service and commitment to ARASA, human rights, health and social justice in Africa and globally.

Penned by Christine Stiegling, Chairperson of the ARASA Board, 21 April 2022.
