Invitation to the launch of the ARASA Report on HIV and Human Rights in Southern and East Africa, 2014
Where: Human Rights Networking Zone, Global Village
When: Wednesday, 23 July 2014 @ 15h00
Key note speaker: The Honorable Michael Kirby, AC CMG
The report examines the legal and regulatory framework for responding to HIV and AIDS in countries in Southern and East Africa in order to determine whether:
1. Laws, regulations and policies protect and promote the rights of all people, including key populations in the context of HIV and AIDS; and
2. Populations are aware of their rights, are able to access justice and are able to enforce their rights in the context of HIV and AIDS.
The report identifies and analyses both national and regional findings to identify significant developments in creating enabling legal and regulatory frameworks for key and emerging human rights issues and also provides country snapshots for 18 countries with information on universal access and human rights and recommendations for improvement (which are based largely on the recommendations of the Global Commission on HIV and the Law).
We are extremely honoured that the Honorable Michael Kirby, retired Australian High Court judge and my colleague on the UNAIDS Reference Group on HIV and Human Rights has agreed to deliver the keynote address at the launch and we do hope that you will be able to join us.
